Two sides of a rhombus measure 5x and 2x + 18. Find x.

The length of the sides of a rhombus are 5x and 2x + 18.
As the length of all sides of a rhombus are the same, to determine x equate the two
terms and solve the resulting equation for x.

5x = 2x +
18

Subtract 2x from both the
sides

5x - 2x = 2x - 2x +
18

3x = 18

Divide the two
sides by 3

x = 6

The value of
x is 6.
