Many different authors were used in the compilation of the
various forms of The Bible. In most cases, especially in the New Testament, the name of
the individual book represents the authorship (for example, in the New Testament, the
books of Matthew, Mark and Luke were all written by the apostles of the same name). It
is not always the case, however. For example, it is believed that Samuel wrote the book
of Ruth. Different religions disagree to a great degree over who wrote the individual
books. According to Hebrew tradition, it was Moses who wrote the first five
books--Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and most of Deuteronomy. The link below is an
interesting one and may clear up some of your uncertainties.
