Discuss the contribution of United Nations to world peace.

I would say that the United Nations has been very
significant in articulating and contributing to the goal of world peace.  Emerging out
of the Second World War, the goal of world peace and harmony between nations has been
one of the most explicit goals of the United Nations. Recognizing its limitations to
ensure this goal by force, and recognizing the inherent contradiction in doing so, the
United Nations has done much in terms of representing a forum of multilateral
cooperation between nations in accomplishing a common goal.  The United Nations
recognizes nations and leaders that are rogue elements in this quest for world peace and
seeks to bring attention to those who struggle to live their lives in peace.  I think
that the United Nations is a symbolic representation of this goal.  Admittedly, the
ongoing struggles in the world today as well as the threats faced around the world in a
variety of contexts bring this goal into significant question.  Yet, I think that the
United Nations has been at the forefront in trying to recognize this goal throughout the
world.
