What figures of speech are used in the poem- "The Frog and the Nightingale" ?

The figures of speech (otherwise known as, literary
devices or poetic devices) in the poem "The Frog and the Nightingale are as
follows:

1. Personification- Personification gives
non-human and non-living things the abilities and characteristics typically reserved for
humans. The poem is filled with examples of
personification.

Other creatures loathed his
voice

Only man is capable of
loathing. Animals are not able to loath anything. Therefore, this examples
personification given the "other animals" are given a human ability- the ability to
oath.

Another example of personifiaction from the poem lies
in the following lines:

Toads and teals and tiddlers,
captured
By her voice, cheered on, enraptured:
“Bravo!” “Too
divine!” “Encore!”

Again, the
creatures of the bog are given the ability to be captured by the sound of the
nightingale's voice. Showing their appreciation, the creatures yell out "Bravo", "Too
divine" and "Encore." Animals, while they have the capability to vocalize, they are not
able to communicate through human words. This, again, examples the personification used
in the poem.
