The basic plot of the fairy tale Rapunzel starts before
the main character's birth. A pregnant woman has a craving for the food she sees in a
witch's garden. The woman's husband promises the witch she can have the child if he can
have the food. The child is born and given to the witch. Eventually the witch locks
her in a tower with no door. The child, Rapunzel, hangs her long hair out of the window
for the witch to climb up. One day, a prince finds the tower and starts to visit
Rapunzel by climbing her hair. The witch discovers the affair, cuts Rapunzel's hair,
and casts her from the tower. She tricks the prince and blinds him as punishment. The
two lovers are lost for a time, but eventually they find each other again and live
happily ever after.
