Solve: y^2 - y - 30 = 0

The equation y^2 - y - 30 = 0 has to be
solved.

y^2 - y - 30 = 0

y^2 -
2*(y/2) - 30 = 0

y^2 - 2*(y/2) + 1/4 - 30 - 1/4 =
0

(y - 1/2)^2 - 121/4 = 0

(y -
1/2)^2 = 121/4

y - 1/2 = +-
11/2

y = 1/2 + 11/2 = 12/2 =
6

y = 1/2 - 11/2 = -10/2 =
-5

The solution of the equation y^2 - y - 30 = 0 is y = 6
and y = -5
