What was the main feature of President Obama's first year policy?

The main feature or main goal of President Obama's
policies during his first year in office was to try to improve the economic situation in
the United States.  While Obama did take other actions during that time, the major goal
of his first year was to help pull the US out of the recession that had followed the
financial crisis of 2008.

The most important law that
President Obama signed during his first term was the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act, better known as the economic stimulus package.  This law put hundreds of billions
of dollars towards trying to restart the economy.  Obama also signed such laws as the
"Cash for Clunkers" act and the "Helping Families Save Their Homes" act.  Both of these
were similarly meant to jumpstart the economy and/or to keep it from slipping further
into recession.
