What was an act mentioned in the Declaration of Independence?

There are many acts of the British government that are
alluded to in the Declaration of Independence, but none is actually referred to by
name.

One of the acts that is alluded to in the Declaration
is the set of laws known to colonists as the "Intolerable Acts."  These acts were passed
in 1774 in retaliation for the Boston Tea Party which was carried out in the previous
year.  The Intolerable Acts did such things
as

  • Closing the port of
    Boston.

  • Allowing government officials accused of crimes
to be taken away from Boston to be tried
    elsewhere.

  • Reducing the Massachusetts colony's right to
    self government.

  • Allowing troops to be quartered in
    private homes.

  • Giving more land to Quebec (then another
British colony) and then seeming to reduce the right to self-government in those areas
    as well.

All of these provisions of the
"Intolerable Acts" are mentioned in the Declaration of
Independence.
