"Put on" means to clothe oneself or to literally put
clothing or jewelry on one's body. Example: "I am going to put on a raincoat before I go
outside."
"Wear" is the act having clothes or jewelry on
the body. Example: "I want to wear my new dress to the
party."
In other words, you "put on" clothes, so you can
"wear" them all day.
