Any author has the option of leaving off acknowledgements
in a research paper, however it is courteous and ethical to let readers of your research
know that you have had writing help and cooperation with other scholars in the
development of your paper.
Caution should be taken not to
make this effort a mere formality, but to make the acknowledgement warm and personal.
One should also make sure that preference isn't given to one contributor over
another.
Acknowledgements can be written for people who
helped in research, gave money toward the project, proofread the piece, or any other
help that was drawn from another person toward the completion of the
project.
